Calcaria Lodge is a group of like-minded people of diverse backgrounds who live within a twenty mile radius of Wetherby. The Lodge was originally consecrated in Tadcaster but for historical reasons we now meet in Wetherby.
Meetings are held on Friday evenings on the last and first two Fridays of the month between October and June with a three month summer recess.
There are two Lodges of Instruction meetings each month where ceremonies are practiced. At the third Regular Lodge meeting the ceremony previously learned is formally presented.
After the Lodges of Instruction we adjourn to the dining room for a topic of discussion and a drink around the tables. This is unique to Calcaria Lodge. It gives the members opportunity to voice their opinions and practice speaking to an audience in a controlled and friendly environment. We avoid politics and religion and any contentious subjects.
After the Regular Lodge meeting we retire to the Dining Room and enjoy the Festive Board with good food, good company and good fellowship.
As a lodge we try to engage and include our families. Social functions are held at various times of the year where families and friends are encouraged to join us. These include a Christmas Lodge, a Ladies Evening in February, a weekend away in March and a Sunday Lunch in June just before we break up for summer. Other social functions may be held if there is a particular reason for doing so.
In recent years we have we have had a stand at the Tadcaster Carnival where the public can visit and ask questions about Freemasonry. We hope that Freemasonry is now seen as an open, friendly, welcoming and approachable organisation and we are keen to extend a cordial hand to those interested in becoming a Mason.
What will you get from Freemasonry? Well to quote the advert for new teachers- ‘probably a lot more than you think’
If you become a Freemason you will meet new friends from many walks of life whom you would probably not have met otherwise. You will be encouraged to learn about yourself and to live a good and upright life. You will have the opportunity to ‘give something back’ and have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped others and the reassurance that help will be there for you should you or your family need it.
On a lighter note generally we like to enjoy ourselves in convivial company.
